57-75 Movement: What can you sacrifice for a child to receive quality education?

“Education” according to the World Bank, “is central to development. It empowers people and strengthens nations. It is a powerful ‘equalizer’, opening doors to all to lift themselves out of poverty.

The Philippine education system continue to deteriorate and the distribution of education opportunities remain unequal, which means that the country losses much of potential returns. Education has a direct impact on sustainable development, democratization of societies, and economic competitiveness. If people would not be educated properly, then this country would stay where it is now – a condition far behind emerging economies.

One strategic way of improving the education system is to involve the community in running the schools. This is how 57-75 Movement gears itself towards improving the management of schools. It aims to “reverse the education crisis through focused interventions and school-community action, towards system-wide performance improvements.”

Why 57-75? “57” is the national average score of public elementary school students in the National Achievement Test, indicating the situation our public educational system is currently in, while “75” symbolizes the state of education which the movement wants to achieve in 5 years.

What can you sacrifice? Your energy, maybe. You can be a runner and be a hero. Or, you can help in any of these ways: you can be one of the “57 Donors of P75K;” you can “Pick-a-Package,” or you can choose to “Adopt a Pilot Site.”
