Pampanga Bookstore Chain Supports apl.de.ap’s Education Advocacy
In big and small ways, everyone can help improve the country’s education situation.
This is the message that Orchid’s Bookstore, a Pampanga-based book distribution chain, wants to deliver in making a donation for classroom-building in support of the “We Can Be Anything” education advocacy campaign.
“We Can Be Anything” (WCBA) is an education advocacy campaign, born of a partnership between the Apl.de.Ap Foundation (AdAF) and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF). The campaign was conceived after Apl.de.Ap (a.k.a. Allan Pineda Lindo), the Filipino-American member of the world-famous Black Eyed Peas, expressed his desire to help improve the education situation in the Philippines. Through WCBA, Apl.de.Ap is enjoining Filipinos all over the world to support Bayanihang Pampaaralan, the consolidated private sector effort to help close the gap of over 60,000 public school classrooms.
“We were deeply moved by the inspiring message of our fellow Kapampangan, apl.de.ap, to find the hero in himself and help address the classroom backlog plaguing our country at present,” said Manny So, owner of Orchid’s Bookstore. “We placed WCBA donation bottles in our branches and encouraged everyone to contribute to this noble cause.”
Orchid’s Bookstore was able to collect over PhP5,ooo for the advocacy. The funds will be remitted to the WCBA secretariat.
“The effort of Orchid’s Bookstore is a fine example of how everyone can be a hero and help alleviate societal issues in his or her own way,” said Rafael C. Lopa, NCAF President and Executive Director. “No contribution is too modest to be able to make a difference. We are thankful to Orchid’s Bookstore for helping create a better future for Filipino children through education. I’m sure they will inspire others to pitch in as well.”
